The Core Square

Y'know I used to love square. There was a time when they made lots of games I actually cared about, and they knew what they were doing. In recent years though Square-Enix seems to have lost contact with what it means to make good games with quality narrative. At the same time they've honed in on what it means to be a money-grubbing publisher hell-bent on making cash wherever they can.
Their latest method involves making you watch ads so you can play classic games for free.

Now I'm not actually against this development, I actually think it's very interesting. You can buy the game, or watch one ad and earn twenty minutes of playtime. It a different way of thinking, and I'm interested to see how it will pan out.
However, I do see it as a way that Square is trying to save it's thinning bottom line. I'm just troubled by how they're trying to save themselves by re-marketing old games, instead of innovating and creating new interesting titles. I know I'm being a little harsh, but I can't help but feel this effort will ultimately be wasted energy.

Hello Mr. Strife, I was wondering if you'd be interested in doing an interview for my blog.

I will get my proverbial popcorn and see how this pans out for Sqeenix.
